Focus Point

Good morning bloggers! Yesterday I was emailing Andrea-Andrea Spence Photography-and she was telling me about focus points and how they can make a difference in my pictures if I focus on the eyes. I honestly had no idea what she was talking about because I haven’t got that far into my camera manual. Luckily she attached a wonderful post from The Pioneer Woman.

Star Struck!

I have to say that I personally enjoy writing posts for my blog. It’s an outlet for me. I love photography. I can appreciate so many different styles of photography and recognize how a photo can be a work of art. I am constantly lost on the computer bouncing around from blog to blog, photographer websites and online tutorials. I even find myself day dreaming about “shots” that I would love to take. Thinking about props I would love to use and how I would position them. It just consumes me at times.

I’m a Lucky Girl!

So today was such a great day for me. I had the pleasure of sitting with one of my favorite photographers today. Who you ask? You should know! It was the fabulous Andrea Spence. She let me pick her brain about Photoshop for a little while this afternoon. It was so helpful to sit and watch one on one with someone who has so much talent. I wanted to share with you some of the things that she taught me how to do today. If you read my blog then you know that I am always a “work in progress” and I am always looking for neat tips, tools and props to help me improve my photography.

This is where I put some of my new found knowledge to use. Of course as soon as I got out of work today I went home and picked up my camera. I needed some new pictures to test out what I had learned.  In this photo hopefully you can tell that I use an action to make “C”s eyes POP. I whitened the whites of his eyes, lightened the iris and then sharpened around the eye and lashes. I used an action to help smooth out his cheeks. And I used an action called kissable lips. That was just for the facial features. I finished the over all photo with an action from Paint the Moon Photography.

Flickr

If you are new to photography (like me) then I would suggest setting up a Flickr account. It’s beneficial in so many ways. You can easily upload your pictures and share them with thousands of people. It’s a great way to learn and share. There are groups that you join and post your specific pictures to the greats page for feedback. I like the variety of photographers on Flickr. You won’t feel out of place if you are just starting out. And it’s also free to create an account. Continue reading to see some of my recommend groups and contacts…

12 Leg Curiosities & We Choose Joy

Since my little “C” is a February baby I thought it would be fun to do a few Valentine’s Day pictures when we had his 1 year photo session with Andrea Spence. I once again turned to Etsy for the props.

I found adorable fake cupcakes (since I didn’t really want him to make a mess for these pictures) from 12 Leg Curiosities. I sent them a conversation because I wanted a specific cupcake. I requested a vanilla, white frosted, with red hearts on top to try to match the shirt I previously ordered from We Choose Joy.

CAKE SMASH

Here it is! I’ve been so excited to see the pictures that Andrea Spence took of my little man “C” for his first birthday! And once again she did not disappoint!

“C” had a blast making a mess and for me the pictures are priceless.

This is where my passion for photography stems from. Look at his face, that expression, it is a moment in his life captured perfectly to be cherished. Who cares about the mess? Who cares about his clothes or the floor? That’s not what is important. Life in general can get messy. It’s these moments of happiness that make life worth living.

“Belly” Pictures

Looking back on my pregnancy I am so happy that I had professional pictures taken during my 8th month. I treasure the pictures and they are displayed in the nursery. I knew that a professional photographer was the only one who was going to take a picture that would be flattering to me.

This is actually how I met Andrea Spence. I’m sure you all are aware of her by now if you follow my blog! Obviously this first meeting went so well that I continue to invite her into our home time and time again. And it was nice having her at our house for these pictures because my boyfriend and I were at ease and comfortable.

I think maternity pictures are beautiful and absolutely priceless. If you are pregnant or know someone who is I would say these are a must!

Designs by Melissa Starr

Since I post so many of my pictures in public places like Facebook, Flickr and this blog I wanted to try to protect them from being copied, saved or printed. Especially because they are mostly all pictures of my son. The thought of someone stumbling upon them and saving them for themselves freaks me out. I started reading about watermarks and the benefits of having them on your images.

Cakes and Cupcakes!

I wanted to share with you the cakes and cupcakes made by Donna Rowan. She made the Giant Cupcake we used for Camden’s “cake smash” photography session with Andrea Spence. Once pictures of the “cake smash” are processed I will post! Donna also made Camden’s Mickey Mouse cake and cupcakes for his 1st Birthday Party. The guests would not leave without Donna’s contact information stating it was the best cake they had ever had!

This is the cake Donna made for “cake smash”! (Click “read more” to see the pictures of the cake and cupcakes from my sons 1st birthday party!)
